Maps

In Social Studies we have started studying maps.  At the end of the unit I would like for students to know all of the continents and oceans as well as which continent, country, state, and city they live in.

This is a fun song that goes over the 7 continents:

Children's Museum

Today we went on our first field trip to the Children's Museum.    We had so much fun exploring all of the rooms in the museum. A HUGE "Thank you" to all of the parent volunteers, without you this field trip would not have been as much fun and ran as smoothly. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Harvest Fest

Harvest Fest was a HUGE success! It was so much fun to see the students and parents outside of the classroom and we even had some dressed up in their Halloween outfits.
I want to give a big "THANKS!" to all of the parents who helped us out.  I am so grateful for the amount of support and supplies we received for our booth (so many cookies!).  Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We have so many cookies left over that I will be leaving the last 30 minutes of class on Halloween  open to decorate some more cookies.

PJ Day

We had so much fun during Spirit Week and dressing up for drug awareness.  For our last day we got to wear our PJ's!!!

How many seeds in a pumpkin?

Yesterday we did an experiment to see how many seeds were in a pumpkin. Students made predictions at first and then we dug in to see how many seeds were in our pumpkins. Our answers varied from 400 to 550! We learned that each line on the outside of a pumpkin equates to a line of seeds on the inside. Also, did you know that small dark orange pumpkins make the best tasting pumpkin pies? We had a lot of fun. Thank you to all of the families that donates pumpkins.

Teaming up in Ms. Reeve's Class

Today we dressed up in sports uniforms to "Team up against drugs"! Tomorrow wear neon to show that you are "Too bright for drugs".

Pretty in Pink

Last week our school raised over $500 by dressing in pink to support Breast Cancer.  Here are some of our Second Graders decked out in pink.

Scientific Method

This week we started studying the Scientific Method.  For our first experiment we wanted to see what would happen if we poked a pencil through a Ziploc bag filled with water.  As "Scientist" we took our five steps of: asking a question (What will happen if...?), making a hypothesis (I predict that...), making a plan and listing materials, writing our observation, and last but not least our conclusion (why it happened).
You can try this experiment at home with a sharp pencil and a Ziploc bag.  Have fun!

Parts of Speech

Noun Town

In Language Arts we are working on nouns and proper nouns.  We created our own "Noun Town".  Each child got to pick a noun for our town and draw it.  Check it out!

Amelia Bedelia

Character Traits

In reading we are working on identifying the main character and describing them.  They will also be using Venn Diagrams to compare themselves to the main character.  Our story this week is Amelia Bedelia so students will be describing her and comparing themselves to her, how they are like her and how they are different.
