Grandparent's Day & Western Wear

Wednesday was Grandparent's Day and Western wear day! We would like to thank all of the grandparents who could join us for this special day. The grandparents got to attend a breakfast with their grandchild, the students got to interview a grandparent, and play with homemade play-doh! Riley S' grandpa even brought in a toy from when he was  a little boy to share with the class!

Mammal Blubber

In science, we learned about mammals and what keeps them warm. We did an activity about polar bears blubber (fat)

We stuck our hand in the ice cold water for 5 seconds... BRR!!!

And then it was time to pretend to be a polar bear! We stuck our hand into the "blubber glove" and put it in the ice cold water.

We noticed a huge difference in temperature! Polar bears stay much warmer than we do! Some of us even said it felt hot inside the blubber glove.

Bird Stations

We have been learning about the different animal groups. For the bird group we did an activity where the children got to pretend to be birds. They had to decide which beak worked best in various habitats. They visited 6 different bird stations and got to be hands-on with the materials.
                                                             Which beak works best?

Cereal Box Book Reports

Students used cereal boxes to represent a book report. They included information about the characters, setting, a summary, etc. They turned out so cute! The students and I were very proud of their work!

Science Fair Projects

We have been learning about the Scientific Method in preparation for our science fair projects. The students did such a great job with their projects and they were very eager to share with the class! Way to go second graders!
